COMPETITION SMALLBORE AND AIR RIFLE CLINIC

 

The Island 4-H Shooting Sports Project will be hosting an advanced smallbore rifle clinic.  The clinic is open to both juniors and adults.  4-H affiliation is not required to participate.

 

The clinic will be held on the following dates and times:

Friday               March 17, 2006  6PM to 9:30PM

Saturday           March 18, 2006  8AM to 6PM

Sunday             March 19, 2006  8AM to 12PM

 

The clinic will be held at the Lemoore Sportsman’s Club. 

The club is located at 23310 Elgin Avenue, Lemoore, CA  93245 559/924-7240. 

From the Highway-41 & Grangeville Blvd intersection, in Lemoore, CA, drive West on Grangeville Blvd approximately 3.5-miles (toward the Lemoore NAS Back Gate). 

Turn North onto 23rd Avenue and travel approximately 3-miles and turn West onto Elgin Avenue. 

Drive approximately .25-miles and the club will be on the North side of Elgin.

 

The focus of the clinic will be on precision international 3-Position marksmanship and the clinic will be delivered in a “Pairs” format.  A pair is one coach and one shooter.  We have room for 15-pairs.  The coaches do not have to be certified coaches and do not have to know the shooter that they will be paired with.  Likewise, the shooter does not need to know the coach that they will be paired with.  Junior and adult shooters are welcome.  The skills presented here will also be transferable to any type of rifle competitions where precision marksmanship is the goal.

 

Bob Foth will present the class.  Bob’s biography is attached to this announcement along with more detailed information about how the class will be administered.  Bob will provide classroom materials for you to keep.  William (Bill) Boyle will also assist us in this presentation.  Bill’s biography is also attached.  Both Bob and Bill’s credentials speak for themselves. 

 

You will need to provide your own smallbore rifle or air rifle and firing point equipment.

 

This is the first time that we are aware of that this level of accomplished competition grade shooters has been available in the Central Valley to share their knowledge of the sport.  This is an excellent opportunity to get off of our plateaus and turn those 9’s and 10’s into X counts.  These are the guys that have been there and done that.

 

The cost of the clinic will be $200 per shooter or coach.  We have space in the clinic for 15-shooters and 15-coaches.  If we fill all 30-slots, we will refund the participants $40 each to reduce the entry fee to $160.  It is our intent to cover the expenses of the event and not to raise money off of this clinic.  Lunch will be provided at the range both days as part of your registration fee.

William Boyle’s Profile

Bill has been a member of many U.S. Shooting Teams, he has shot in around 40 International competitions, representing the U.S. in Canada, Germany, Austria, Switerland and the Soviet Union (and yes it was still the Soviet Union both times he was there).  He retired from competition after the World Championships in 1990 and was out of the sport until 1998 when he came out of retirement to begin coaching. Since that time he has joined the NRA's National Coach Development Staff, worked as a coach at the National Junior Olympic Camp for the last 5 years and he was an Assistant Coach at the ISSF World Cups in Sydney Australia in 2000, 2002 and 2004.

 

Bob Foth’s Pairs Clinic

Bob’s favorite clinics are the Coach & Shooter “Pairs” Clinics.  These have been very successful all over the U.S.  They are designed to help coaches and shooters work together more effectively.  Frequent alternation between 15 classes and 10 shooting sessions breaks both into manageable units.  Each shooting session has a specific goal related to the previous class(es).  Topics include: Positions, Portfolios (diaries), Shot Plans (mental programs), Sights, Physical Training and Nutrition, Shot Calling, Shot Fundamentals, Mental Training, Competitions, Goal Setting and Training Plans. 

Each participant receives a shooting portfolio with class notes and various other tools.

This clinic is the perfect complement to the NRA/USAS/CMP Coach School.

Shooters and coaches are not restricted to certain ages, but should be able to concentrate on the sport for a whole weekend.  Adult shooters are welcome as are teenage “coaches”!  Both Three Position Air Rifle and Smallbore Rifle are available.
